Check the Curtain Stack Beside the Window
Compare the open curtain position with daylight, nearby furniture and the actual fitting requirements.

Look at the open arrangement
Curtains are often chosen from a photograph showing them neatly closed. Spend equal attention on where the fabric sits when open. The stack may cover part of the glass, press against furniture or interfere with another everyday movement beside the window.
Record the actual window and surrounding space. Include any relevant fittings, surfaces and equipment, following their requirements. Do not assume a decorative arrangement is suitable merely because a similar window appears in an interiors photograph.
Read the proposed system information
Check the curtain and track or pole requirements together. Measurements, support, installation and operation need to suit the actual products and wall conditions. Obtain appropriate qualified help where the installation requires it rather than treating a visual guide as fixing advice.
Ask how the proposed fabric behaves in the permitted open position. A bulky textile may form a different stack from a lighter one. Use actual supplier information or samples where available, and label uncertainties before committing to a made-to-measure order.
Compare the daylight you keep
View the window at the time the room is usually occupied. Notice whether the proposed open fabric position would cover a useful part of the view or daylight. Avoid claiming a particular amount of light change without measurements.
Our curtain guide covers the broader decision. Here the question is practical: can the curtains open as intended while the room remains usable? A pleasing fabric cannot resolve an unsuitable installation or operating arrangement.
Include adjacent furniture
Check drawers, chair backs and the route used to approach the window. Consider the curtain's full movement rather than its final folded shape alone. Keep all relevant product instructions and necessary access in view throughout the plan.
If a chair must move every time the curtains open, review the furniture position or suitable window treatment options. Avoid shortening the task to a photograph-friendly compromise that requires fabric to be held, tied or pushed somewhere against its requirements.
Review a real sample before ordering
Where possible, inspect a permitted sample in the room and compare it with retained materials. Consider texture, colour and care alongside the operating arrangement. A sample cannot reproduce every aspect of a finished installation, so keep that limitation explicit.
Our bedroom guide and living-room guide help connect the window decision to the room's actual use. Resolve measurements and fitting questions before allowing a colour preference to settle the purchase.
Curtain stack questions
Should all fabric clear the glass? Compare the intended effect with the actual fitting and available space; there is no universal decorative requirement.
Can a sample show the finished stack exactly? No. Confirm the finished product and installation details with the relevant supplier.
What if the window is crowded? Review suitable treatment and furniture options together rather than forcing the fabric into the remaining gap.
